Day 3 Dubrovnik To Split - 4th August 2022

We left to get to Split and this time we went through Bosnia, there was no checkpoint or stamping of our passport, it's essentially just a through road. We stopped to admire the new bridge on both sides of the island before and after Bosnia once we'd realised that it was a big deal.

I dropped Amy at Podgora while I went to drive up to the highest mountain in Croatia. What I didn't know was that it's a ticketed road, only a certain number of cars are allowed on it per hour, and it was booked up days in advance. I was told I'd have to go down into the town and rent a motorbike. I was very disappointed and I thought I'd just go for a drive, but Amy called me and asked me to come back, so I went back to Podgora and we had lunch by the sea.

We arrived in Split and went to the hotel I'd booked. However they'd emailed me the day before to ask me to confirm the booking and since I hadn't responded they'd given the room to someone else and they had no more rooms available. I was frustrated by the whole scenario and used the hotel wifi to try and find us something else but everything looked taken. One of the staff there had a friend who had an apartment and we were given her number. I'd just about given up so Amy contacted the host and we somehow managed to meet her near the house. I picked her up and she navigated (with no English) to the apartment. The roads were very narrow and she kept telling me to go slower. I clipped the wing mirror on a post or something as we were driving between the houses. It was only the next day when we were leaving that I realised how tight the road was.

In the evening I went for a walk along the seafront and saw a fireworks display. I think it was Croatian independence day or something similar.
